Most of these trustworthy, valid sources provide free, online access to their collections.  You’ll find a huge range of materials, such as:  full text books, music scores, interviews/recordings, photographs, ephemera, newspaper clippings, and more.

 

Russell Sage College Library Resources (require RSC login):

Russell Sage’s online library has hundreds of databases to support research in almost any discipline.  
  • Slavery and Anti-Slavery: A Transnational Archive - A four-part archive devoted to the study and understanding of the history of slavery in America and the rest of the world from the 17th century to the late 19th century.

  • Nineteenth Century Newspapers - Primary source newspaper content from a range of urban and rural regions throughout the U.S., with an emphasis on topics such as the American Civil War, African-American culture and history, Western migration and Antebellum-era life, among others.

  • Children’s Literature and CultureRare books, games, ephemera, and artwork from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, showcasing innovative new publishing methods characteristic of the golden age of children’s literature.
